This is a gym at the Blue Mountain Observatory, operated by the University of Montana, at an altitude of 6.300 feet. The player said he got there for work, in 2017.

“The roads are closed most of the year because of the snow, so the only way to get there is by walking,” he said on Reddit. “I was there working on the fire tower adjacent to it [Blue Mountain] when Lolo was on fire in 2017,” he explained.

He hadn't revealed the location of the gym, defended by a Ninetales, until then. He even hid the username in Pokémon GO so as not to give away any clues to the location, but the background of the screenshot was enough for someone to find the gym.

A few hours after posting on Reddit, BootsMade4Walking re-edited the post to report that he lost his gym to a cheater who must have used a fake GPS to access the Blue Mountain Observatory. “Laughs, a spoofer took over the gym. It didn't even have a name. They discovered the location by the image”, reported the player.

Despite this, the Ninetales coach didn't seem to care so much: “I achieved my goal of 1.331 days, so I don't mind”, he said. The number 1.331 refers to the game Ingress, also by Niantic, and is part of the lore attributed to the game's “NL-1331” events.

With the episode and three and a half years after defending the gym, BootsMade4Walking finally got his 50 Pokémon GO coins.
