How to play New Pokemon Snap [basic tips]

1. Improve camera sensitivity

By default, the motion controls for both the camera frame and the focus point (which you use to identify Pokemon and other objects) are set so that it will take forever to rotate from side to side. And agility is precious for getting an unexpected click or following a little monster.

Go to the controller settings, in the game menu, and set both options to maximum. Even so, it won't be super fast, but it will certainly help you a lot when shooting, since it's not possible to pause the movement of your vehicle. There are other possible settings on the controls as well, but this is perhaps the most necessary.

2. Use the full power of your camera

With each expedition, you will have 72 clicks available on your camera. Understand this as the maximum memory capacity of your machine (why not use a memory card? I don't know either). That said, as much as you think you've taken all the photos you wanted, keep shooting!

Sometimes that photo you didn't pay much attention to can be the one that gets the best score. It is worth noting that, regardless of whether you are at the beginning or in the middle of the route, once your available clicks are over, your expedition will also be terminated.

If it's your first time on the route, you'll be able to watch until the end (even without being able to take photos) and see all the amazing photo opportunities you missed because you flashed a cute Pikachu right at the beginning of the trip.

3. Understand the Star Scoring System

Whenever you return from an expedition, Professor Mirror will evaluate all the photos you take. Your images will receive 1 to 4 stars according to the quality of the scene. However, the amount of stars is not related to the visual quality of the photo (we'll see this below), but to the reactions of the pokémon in the image.

Each pokémon may have different behaviors, which may vary with each expedition and as you level up in a region. If you want to stimulate different reactions on your own, and try to get more stars in your rating, use the cheats at your disposal, such as: radar, apple, melody and illumina orbs. I talk more about this later.

4. How to compose photos to score more

In addition to the star rating, as mentioned before, Professor Mirror will also evaluate your photos according to some criteria, such as: pose, size, direction, framing, other pokémon and background.

Explaining each of them a little better:

  • Installation: what the pokemon is doing (or not doing) in the scene. He can be sleeping, jumping, looking at the camera, playing and etc;
  • Size: refers to the size that the pokemon occupies in the frame. For better scores, look for clicks taking the whole body of the little monsters;
  • Direction: how much the pokemon is looking at the camera. Perhaps here is a great challenge of your photo. It's like trying to take a picture of your little dog looking at the camera, it can be super easy or a task of titans;
  • Framework: how centered the target is within the image capture area;
  • other pokemon: You get additional points if you photograph the little monster in the company of other pokémon. If they are interacting even better;
  • Background scenery: how beautiful and harmonious is the scenery behind the pokémon you photographed.

Based on these criteria, the teacher can give you the following final scores:

  • Bronze: 0 is 2.999 points
  • Silver: 3.000 is 3.499 points
  • Gold: 3.500 to 3.999
  • Diamond: 4.000 points or above

5. Use (and abuse) your items and cheats

In addition to luck, you can also count on some tricks to try to guarantee better clicks in New Pokémon Snap. Over the course of the game, Professor Mirror will present the player with four items to help you when you go exploring.

When using scanner, for example, it will be possible to identify hidden items and unique sectors of the scenario to interact with. Usually, when something mysterious is nearby, the scanner itself will send a signal alerting you. Pokemon that are in range of the radar are highlighted and can have different reactions to it too, which is a great opportunity to take pictures.

A flufffruit, which looks like an apple, is another very good resource to instigate pokémon to have different reactions. Most of the time, they will eat the fruit, but on other occasions, throwing a fluffruit can cause them to run away or even get angry. Happy or wanting to kill you, everything is worth a photo!

One more item in his photographic “arsenal” are the orbes illumina. You will unlock them as you progress through expeditions and help Professor Mirror investigate this phenomenon. As a work tool, throwing these orbs at a pokémon, in addition to generating a light effect on the little monsters, will also awaken the most different reactions.

Finally, it is possible to play a smooth song (which lasts around eight seconds) that can, for example, gently wake up drowsy Pokémon (instead of throwing an apple at them) or even make some of them start dancing.

Now it's time to go on an expedition and photograph pokémon. Good luck with the clicks!
