Pokémon GO introduces level 50 with more challenges and 6th generation

Pokémon GO announced significant gameplay changes, called GO Beyond: there will be a new level cap, up to 50, with balances in experience gain, seasons feature to influence events and Kalos species (sixth generation). The changes will take effect from November 30th, with a commemorative event available today (18th).

New challenge: Pokémon GO level 50

Many players have already parked at level 40, but the peace of mind about gaining experience is about to end, with the arrival of the new maximum: 50. According to the Pokémon GO team, this is not a scary change, as rising from level became more accessible, from the rebalancing in terms of experience gain.

Starting November 30, catches, evolutions, hatching eggs, and Pokédex registrations will grant more experience (in some cases double what it was before), to help low-level players reach higher levels in less time.

Push to reach 40 before 2021

Between November 18 and December 31, captures will give double experience for trainers below level 40 to reach it before the turn of the year. Upon reaching the mark, these players will receive the title of “Ancient Trainer 40” and access to a temporary research, avatar item, Gyarados Hat, and achievement medal.

To those who are already 40

From 40 to 50, in addition to the required experience, each level will require the completion of special missions. One of the examples cited is for level 46: it involves solving 100 field research quests, taking a picture of Pokemon for seven days in a row, making 50 excellent moves, and hatching 30 eggs.

gg candy

Candy GG is a new item to raise a Pokémon's CP (Combat Points) even higher. These resources can be obtained by capturing or by converting regular candies into GG candies.

Kalos species arrive in Pokémon GO

Although there is no order for the arrival of new generations of Pokémon in GO — see that some of Galar are already in the game — the game team revealed that, from December 2, species of Kalos can be captured, such as Greninja, Talonflame, Chepsin, Fennekin, Froakie, Fletching and others. The only exclusivity is for Klefki, available only in France.

To celebrate this arrival, the sixth generation will appear more frequently in the wild between December 2nd and 8th.

Weather seasons in Pokémon GO

Real-world seasons (winter, summer, autumn, and spring) will influence gameplay, from special appearances by types (fire, water, ice), mega-evolved Pokémon, events, raids, and the GO Battle League. The seasons will vary depending on which hemisphere the player is in.

Since today

To celebrate the update, the event starting today and running through November 30th includes:

  • Friendship levels that increase faster when opening gifts, trading Pokémon, battles;
  • Attack increase when battling in raids with friends;
  • Experience increase when completing raids;
  • More gifts can be opened on the same day;
  • Double experience per capture.
