Pokémon Go's next major update is bringing a new concept called "research tasks". It's a set of quests that will bring you closer to a rare creature, and add more story to the game.
In the "field research", the player receives a list of tasks in the PokéStops, which involve simple objectives such as capturing certain monsters, participating in battles in gyms, winning raids (raids), among others.
You receive a badge each day you complete a task; Once you've collected seven seals, you'll earn rewards — like the chance to catch a rare Legendary Pokémon.

We also have the “special survey”. Professor Willow is looking for Trainers to find out if a series of mysterious happenings are linked to the mythical Pokémon Mew, which will be added to the game.
Therefore, “Professor Willow may request special research that will take you on a journey to make important discoveries,” according to developer Niantic. This includes transferring Pokémon to it, capturing a specific number of monsters, spinning PokéStops, and more.
