Pokémon Arceus gets new forms and release date

Pokemon Legends: Arceus had several news revealed, including the release date: 28 January 2022. The Nintendo Switch-exclusive game will take Pokémon characters back in time, while also containing never-before-seen forms for familiar creatures.

The game was demonstrated with an extensive gameplay video. As expected, Arceus will be free to roam around the map and the player character himself will be able to be actively attacked by wild Pokémon, without having a previous battle.

However, if the player decides to launch their Pokémon in the battle, a turn-based battle will be initiated, similar to what happens in the traditional games of the saga. We will still have some "possessed" Pokémon, which will be even more violent and will take a lot of work to defeat.

As with recent games, Arceus will have unique regional forms for some creatures. Basculin and Growlithe are some of those confirmed. It is unknown if they will have evolutions or if they will represent some more drastic change in gameplay.

Living environment in Pokemon

For the first time in the series it is also possible to use the environment in your favor for combats. Some players pointed out a similarity to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in this regard.

In addition, the map promises to be gigantic and of even greater proportions than what was seen in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, the two most recent main titles of the brand and which have already presented a vast exploration.

Arceus is expected to have several other surprises, which should be released gradually, until launch. Another important novelty is that the game will be compatible with extra services from the Pokémon Company, such as Pokémon Home. This is an app that lets you stream creatures between games to trade or just keep them. It is unknown if it will be fully compatible with the new regional forms, however.
