When it was announced, Minecraft Earth surprised by bringing a mobile game with augmented reality, but with much more features than the competition. It was possible not only to interact with creatures, but also to destroy scenarios that were placed in the real world, among others.

As in Pokémon Go, the player controlled an avatar, on the map based on the real world map. As the user walked, the avatar followed the movement to explore various environments.

One of the problems, though, is that Minecraft Earth is an extremely active game. It is necessary to move the cell phone and the player himself needs to make movements to explore the game's interactive scenarios. This seems to have upset the community a bit, hindering its success a bit – the COVID-19 pandemic was another possible reason not cited by Microsoft.

Last update

Minecraft Earth will lose its online and support functions on June 30th. On July 1st, the company will delete all user data other than character creation from its servers.

However, the company also said that the game has received a final update, which removes all monetization and reduces the time needed to craft materials or obtain items – thus giving players more time to enjoy the last days of the online server.

Thus, Minecraft returns to being a computer and mobile game, with only one spin-off – Minecraft Dungeons, now available.
