How to choose Eevee evolutions in Pokémon GO

Eevee is one of the most popular Pokémon in the franchise, either because of its presence in several generations of the series or the variety of types that the little monster evolves. In the mobile game, there is a way to decide which species this Pokémon will transform into (Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Umbreon, Espeon, Glaceon, Leafeon, or Sylveon). See how to choose evolutions of Eevee in Pokemon GO.

Time needed: 3 minutes.

Eevee has all eight evolutions available in Pokémon GO. Sylveon (the fairy type) was the last to arrive, in 2021. As a rule, each evolution is random, but the developers have placed an easter egg that allows you to choose the Eevee's transformation. The secret is to assign a name to the Pokémon before tapping the button to evolve. Each shape needs a specific name.

  1. Rename the Eevee you want to evolve

    Find the Eevee you want to evolve in the Pokémon Stock and tap the Pokémon's name to change it. Then enter the name you want to evolve to (as shown in the list below) and tap “OK” to confirm — it is recommended to restart the game as well to make sure the name has been saved.How to choose Eevee evolutions in Pokémon GO

  2. Evolua o Eevee no Pokémon GO

    First of all, confirm the Eevee's name for the chosen evolution and check if the Pokémon's shadow has changed to the desired evolution. If everything is ok, tap on “Evolve” and then on “Yes”.How to choose Eevee evolutions in Pokémon GO

  3. wait for the evolution

    After Eevee evolved, just enjoy and use. Worth an addendum: the evolution method by name only works once for each Eeveelution. Use the method wisely and carefully.How to choose Eevee evolutions in Pokémon GO

For the evolutions below, rename Eevee with the following names:

  • Flareon: Pyro;
  • Jolteon: Sparky;
  • Vaporeon: Rainer;
  • Espeon: Sakura;
  • Umbreon: Tamao;
  • Leafeon: Linnea;
  • Glaceon: Rea;
  • Sylveon: Kira.

These names are related to characters that appeared in the Pokémon series as trainers of the respective evolutions. Pyro, Sparky and Rainer are brothers of a boy who has an Eevee, in the episode "The Battling Eevee Brothers" and each has a first generation evolution.

Sakura and Tamao are two sisters who were introduced in the second generation of games in the franchise — Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver. Each one has an Eevee evolution.

Finally, Glaceon and Leafeon belonged to Rea and Linnea, two trainers that can be found in Sun and Moon and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon games.

Alternative media for Umbreon and Espeon

As in the second generation games, to evolve into Umbreon or Espeon, it was necessary for the Eevee to level up when it was happy with its trainer. If this happened during the day, it would evolve into Espeon, if it happened during the night, it would be Umbreon.

In Pokémon GO this mechanic is a little different: another way to evolve Eevee into Umbreon or Espeon is to leave it as a companion, walk for at least 10 km and then evolve the Pokemon.

If you do the evolution during the day, the result will be Espeon and during the night, Umbreon.

Ever noticed some different attract modules in the game?

In the game's setting, Glaceon and Leafeon can be obtained by evolving Eevee near rocks covered with ice or moss, at specific points on the region's map. When playing this in Pokémon GO, we have the Mossy Lure Modules e Glacial Lure Module.

Modules must be used in a Pokestop. When doing so, Moss will attract plant, insect, and poisonous Pokémon, while Glacial will attract water or ice.

When you're near a Pokéstop with one of these modules, just evolve Eevee. The result will be Glaceon (when the module is Glacial) or Leafeon (for Mossy).

The evolution silhouette itself will tell you which of the two Pokémon is coming, instead of the question mark icon, as is traditionally the case.

Evolve into Sylveon in Pokemon GO

Sylveon arrived in the game in May 2021. The debut took place at an event to launch the legendary Yveltal in Pokémon GO, dark type and also from the sixth generation. As with the previous ones, there is an alternative way to evolve an Eevee into Sylveon besides the name change - a feature that only works once.

In the case of Sylveon, the player must place it as companion and fulfill tasks with the Pokémon until reaching at least 70 accumulated hearts. After that, just go to the Eevee page to evolve it.
