Fans Launch Pokémon Game That Took 9 Years to Make

With all the Pokémon Go hype, a lot of people remembered how cool it was to enjoy the franchise. Here's another opportunity: Pokémon Uranium, a game developed entirely by fans that took nine years (!!!) to complete. The coolest: the map is based on Rio de Janeiro!

This time, without bulbassault: the Uranium monsters were also made by the creators. In total, there are more than 150 species. The game works exactly like the originals, played on the Game Boy Advance. It takes place in a specific region (named Tandor) and the trainer needs to fill his Pokédex and battle in the eight gyms to later go to the league (Tandor Regional Championship).

Uranium takes its name because the city, Tandor, has two nuclear plants and part of its Pokémon also gained a new type, nuclear. The city, as it has a carioca influence, is very tropical, with a diverse ecosystem. Here's the trailer for the game in action:

As you can see above, it looks a lot like the older games, like Pokémon Ruby, but the graphics have more modern designs, not to mention the reorganization of various game elements, such as battle animations.

A very interesting feature is the battle or trade mode, which takes place entirely online. If you or a friend are playing Uranium, just go to the nearest Pokémon Center and enter the player ID to be connected.

This page explains that they only have one evolution per level. The other is made by what the game calls “Mega Evolution”.

They are chosen when the player talks to Professor Bamb'o. The main player has a rival, named Theo, but unlike the original versions the rival's Pokémon has a type that is weak against its main. Here are more screenshots of the game:

For now, the game is only available for Windows. But the Uranium homepage signals that a macOS version may arrive soon. If you're interested, download the game here. More information on Uranium can be found in the encyclopedia or on the forum.
