The world of pocket monsters is gigantic. There is a huge variety of fauna and flora available to any enthusiast or tourist. To check all this, you have to walk around every corner and know as much as you can. With that in mind, I've separated each of the regions from the main Pokémon games so that none are left behind. Join me on this journey to discover (or catch) them all!

1. Hisui

Nature is very present in Hisui (Image: Disclosure)

The most recent of the Pokémon regions introduced in the games is, at the same time, a region already known to fans. Hisui is a Sinnoh from centuries ago, in a historical period far removed from the fourth generation games. Locations like Mount Coronet and Jubilife Village, for example, are prominent presences in both seasons of the titles.

Hisui is predominantly a place with a lot of nature, as humans had not yet started to exercise their dominion and their changes in the region. Open places full of green are easy to find, always attracting the most diverse types of Pokémon.

2. Song

Do you have Zubat in Kanto? (Image: Disclosure)

Probably the most popular of all the Pokémon game regions, Kanto is based entirely on the eponymous location in Japan. Bringing familiar parts like Pallet Town, the ghost town of Lavender and Mt. Moon (full of Zubats, don't forget), for example.

With the exception of the first city, all the others in the region are named after colors. Attracting a lot of enthusiasts since its first appearance in 1996. Whether because of the anime, the card game or the series games, the vast majority of fans know the Kanto region very well.

3. Management

Johto is a very inviting place (Image: Handout)

Geographically connected with Kanto, Johto vie for the affection of many fans as the all-time favorite region. It brings a more modern architecture, highlighting the great city of Goldenrod with its radio, gigantic store and even a train.

It is worth remembering that the names of cities in Johto in the English language are all related to plants such as Cherrygrove City and Azalea Town. Finally, the legends that connect the three legendary dogs with Lugia and Ho-Oh are passionate and worth checking out from all regions of the Pokémon world.

4. Hoenn

There is really a lot of water in Hoenn (Image: Handout)

Even with a lot of water, there's a lot to enjoy in Hoenn, one of the regions in the Pokémon games with the most variety of environments. For starters, there is a volcano called Mt. Chimney which can only be accessed by cable car. Plus, locations like Desert Ruins and Southern Island help fully diversify Hoenn.

With all this, it is not surprising that the climate of the region changes so frequently. On one route it may be that a sandstorm is occurring, however, shortly afterward a torrential rain may appear. Getting used to unpredictability is a hallmark of Hoenn.

  • Games in which it appears: Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire

5. Sinnoh

There's a lot of cuteness in Sinnoh (Image: Handout)

The present-day Hisui, Sinnoh is my favorite among the regions in the Pokémon games. Its mysterious ambiance mixed with modernity makes everything passionate. Not to mention the legends around it that include little monsters like Arceus, Giratina, Palkia and Dialga.

Its entire geography is based on the Hokkaido region of Japan. The City of Eterna is one that tries to keep the focus on Sinnoh's traditions and distant past, while the City of Jubilife has preferred to modernize as much as possible. A nice contrast compared to what we knew when Sinnoh's name was still Hisui.

  • Games in which it appears: Pokémon Legends: Arceus (como Hisui), Diamond & Pearl, Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

6. Unova

Unova has a very centralized geography (Image: Disclosure)

The first of all Pokémon regions to be inspired by a city outside of Japan, Unova features many elements taken from New York in the United States. Therefore, it ends up differentiating itself not only in terms of architecture, but also in terms of culture and fauna.

The city of Castelia, for example, features huge buildings and is surrounded by water. The small town of Accumula, on the other hand, has that American suburban look that we've seen so much in movies and series. Anyway, even with a more western feel, Unova keeps alive the flame of legends the little monsters with their stories about Reshiram and Zekrom.

  • Games in which it appears: Pokémon Black & White, Black & White 2

7. Kalos

Kalos and all his style (Image: Disclosure)

It's hard not to feel awe when entering Kalos. The European-looking architecture, the chic and stylish ambiance, the places like cafes and cinema. Everything in the place represents a modernity not seen before in the titles of the pocket monsters series. The highlight, of course, goes to Lumiose City.

Even fashion is very relevant here compared to other regions of Pokémon games. In virtually every city in Kalos there is a store focused on selling accessories and clothing to anyone, especially trainers looking for their badges.

  • Games in which it appears: Pokémon X & Y

8. Alola

Alola's refreshing style (Image: Handout)

Totally changing the environment, we have Alola. This region in the world of Pokémon is totally inspired by Hawaii, being a huge tourist spot for all visitors. Here there are five natural islands: Melemele, Akala, Ula'ula and Poni Island, but it is also home to an artificial island called Aether Paradise.

Additionally, Alola is known for being the place of discovery for Ultra Creatures, powerful Pokémon that came from another dimension. Finally, the region embraces its traditions, but is not closed to progress. Therefore, they are planning to create a Pokémon League.

  • Games in which it appears: Pokémon Sun & Moon, Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon

9. Galar

As the last (as of this writing) region featured in the Pokémon games, Galar is based in the United Kingdom. Its buildings bring a style of Norman architecture, very common in England, for example. Also, long green fields can be found all along the way.

Even so, technology and progress are part of Galar. Wyndon is the main city and quite populated, it has a huge stadium for battles between trainers, as well as a five-star hotel called Rose of the Rondelands. Close to Galar, it is possible to head to the Isle or Armor and Crown Tundra, places with a different geographic style and fauna and flora.

  • Games in which it appears: Pokémon Sword & Shield

It is worth mentioning that I focused only on the main series games, that is, regions like Fiore from Pokémon Ranger or Holon from Pokémon Trading Card Game were left out of this list. Who knows, maybe in the future we'll publish an article only with these lesser-known places?

Which of the regions that appear in the Pokémon games do you like the most? Are you more nostalgic and love Kanto or are you more original and prefer Alola? Leave your opinion in our community!
