Call of Duty League now requires proof of vaccination from visitors

The Call of Duty League is returning with in-person championships in the USA. From now on, however, fans who want to visit the stadiums will have to prove full vaccination or present a negative COVID-19 test. The decision was taken by the organizers of the event, due to the increase in the number of cases in the city of Los Angeles, California.

The next in-person tournament will be the 2021 Call of Duty League Championship Weekend. With a total prize pool of US$ 2,5 million (about R$ 13 million), the competition will take place from August 19th to 22nd in LAN format - that is, , cyber athletes will play on stage over the same internet network.

In addition to requiring visitors to prove vaccination or a negative diagnosis of COVID-19, the Call of Duty League organization will also require the use of masks for the entire duration of the event. Check out the full statement published by the League's Twitter, below:

“The Call of Duty League has the best fans in the world and we know you are waiting to see your favorite teams and players return to the stage.

Our priority is the health and safety of our fans, teams and players. Due to the increased COVID-19 case rate in Los Angeles County, we are increasing our security measures for Call of Duty League Championship Weekend.

From now on, all participants will be required to show proof of vaccination or, if they are not yet fully immunized, a negative PCR test or an antigen test performed within 72 days of the day of their presence. All visitors must wear a mask during the event, regardless of vaccination status.

CoD League had cases of COVID-19 in an in-person event

The announcement of the new tournament security rules came shortly after the end of the Call of Duty League Stage Five Major, held from July 19 to August 1, in person at Esports Stadium Arlington, Texas. This was the first major competition open to the public in over a year, however, after the event, some pro players tested positive for COVID-19.

Even with proof of vaccination and negative diagnoses, holding a championship with an in-person audience is still not safe. It is unclear, for example, whether anyone can show up with a PCR test result, or whether it is necessary to have taken at least the first dose of the vaccine. This is worrying, as people can still contract the coronavirus in that 72-hour window.
