They are found spawning naturally in any of the ocean biomes except frozen and warm ocean biomes. They start at the bottom of the ocean and work their way up towards the surface of the water.

They can also be found by trading with Wandering Traders and purchased for 3 Emeralds. This is not worth it and players must simply travel to a nearby ocean to obtain it.

Uses

Minecraft Kelp has a variety of uses and some of them are listed below:

  • Players can make a running water block into a water fountain block by placing a Kelp on it.
  • Blocks can be placed on top of a Kelp so players don't need a base block in the middle of the ocean.
  • They can be used as furnace fuel, but they need to be turned into dried seaweed blocks first.
  • Players can use it on a Composter to increase the level by 1.
  • Dry kelp can be used as food.
  • To farm Kelp, players need to place them on an underwater base block and they grow upwards.
