Minecraft Gameplay Developer Shares Information About Warden in Update 1.18

Like the Minecraft community, Mojang developers also participate in healthy and informative conversations on social media platforms like Reddit and Twitter. Through their accounts, developers often share information about upcoming updates and ask for feedback.

Minecraft 1.18 update titled Caves and Cliffs Part 2 will be released in late 2021. Many developers who were on vacation after updates 1.17 and 1.17.1 are now getting back to work. They are also working on all feedback and bug reports submitted by players.

Brandon “kingbdogz” Pearce, Gameplay Developer for Minecraft, took to Twitter to share his concerns about the future Warden mob and how it might end up pissing off players like Phantoms.

Kingbdogz shares more information about the upcoming Minecraft mob Warden

Phantoms was the first mob to be added to Minecraft through community voting polls. Minecraft players were very excited when the crowd was introduced to Minecon Earth. But the hype subsided shortly after Phantoms were added to the game.

My genuine fear: Warden goes the way of Phantoms, where people find it cool at first, then hate them when they get in their way during mining sessions.

I'm doing a lot of design work to avoid this, but it's still a fear.

Kingbdogz fears the Warden could face treatment similar to that of the Ghosts. Since his appearance at Minecon 2020, Warden has created a sense of danger and intrigue in every player's mind. While most were terrified to see the Headmaster do so much instant damage, some were eager to fight him.

Kingbdogz previously mentioned that the Warden is not to be fought. If a player encounters the mob while mining, their first impulse should be to escape and not fight. Developers are working on making Warden nearly invincible to prevent players from fighting him.

Surely you have some tricks up your sleeve to avoid this particular strategy?

At the same time, they want to make sure the Director doesn't end up irritating players during their mining sessions. Kingbdogz is hard at work on the deep dark biome and Guardians to prevent this from happening.

The goal is to have special items in the chests. We don't want players to be encouraged to kill the Warden.

No drops.

Kingbdogz has repeatedly stated that defeating the Warden would not yield any items. Players will have to escape the clutches of the mob and safely loot the chests found in the deep, dark caves.
