How to grow trees in Minecraft Skyblock

In Minecraft's Skyblock maps, renewable resources are even more precious than in the simple survival experience, forcing players to use them wisely or risk losing them forever.

Most Skyblock maps start players with a lone tree, typically oak. To get more trees, and therefore more wood for crafts, it is necessary to plant more trees. This can be achieved by breaking the oak leaves on Skyblock Island, but leaving its wood intact. Occasionally, breaking the leaves of a tree rewards players with a seedling they can plant. If players keep their original oak well lit, it will also slowly regenerate its leaves over time, allowing for more seedling collection.

Since space is at a premium in Minecraft's Skyblock maps, players will want to slowly expand the size of their island, replacing your dirt blocks with cobblestones before branching out with additional cobblestone blocks. It's important not to get rid of all the grass and dirt blocks, as they will likely be needed later. Once a player's Minecraft island in the sky has been expanded, they can start choosing a spot to plant trees.

Since trees take up a fair amount of space, it will be important to create a large platform to accommodate them, depending on how much wood the player needs. Once the platform is ready, a simple way to create a tree farm is to make small tree planters approximately 3 x 3 blocks long. In the center of the planter, Minecraft players can place a block of dirt or grass in the center and then plant their tree seedling in it.

By placing torches or other sources of light in the corners of the planter, the tree can regrow its leaves if necessary, similar to the original island tree. This is useful when harvesting the tree for things like apples or sticks, rather than just wood.

Most tree farms place their planters about 3-5 blocks apart to ensure the trees themselves don't grow too close and become a cluster. Different trees operate in different ways regarding their growth, but keeping the distance between tree planters is a good rule of thumb to follow.

As Minecraft players cut down their trees for wood, all they have to do is place saplings where the trees used to be to replace them. If they run out of saplings, players can break leaves from existing trees to receive more saplings, and the cycle continues until players have all the wood they need for their Skyblock experience.
