The intro to GTA 5 begins with Trevor Phillips, Michael Townley, Brad and a hired assassin crashing into a North Yankton bank 9 years ago. The scene plays out with them trying to control a crowd of hostages. They push them into a room and use cellphone explosives to blow up the room. They then head to the vault, where they steal around $178.000 in cash and head to the garage.

The scape

The characters try to get to the bank's garage. On the way, a police officer holds Michael, discovers his mask and claims he saw his face and would remember him. Michael responds with the words, “You forget a thousand things every day. Make sure this is one of them.” This dialogue plays a very important role in the development of the story as it progresses. At this point, the player is prompted to change their character to Trevor. Trevor shoots the cop and saves Michael. They then fight their way through a locked door and arrive at the bank's garage.

This is where players learn the combat skills of GTA 5. Players are greeted by a squad of police waiting to catch them as they exit the garage. The player is now allowed to switch between Trevor and Michael at will. They eliminate all the cops and make their way through the snow to an SUV that has been placed there for their escape. The characters leave as more cops follow. The contract killer is shot by the police and the characters abandon him. They drive into an open field after nearly colliding with a moving train. Their car is damaged and they continue on foot. They are then ambushed and Brad is shot. They take cover and fight the cops, but even Michael gets shot. Trevor tries to kill the cops and save Michael, who had already lost a lot of blood. Michael tells Trevor to leave the scene as more police are approaching him and Trevor will not be able to save Michael. Trevors is enraged by this, but eventually runs away, leaving Michael and Brad to die.

The Aftermath

After that, a sequence is shown where there is a funeral being held for Michael. However, Michael is standing just a few feet away, drinking coffee and watching his funeral. Michael had faked his death by bribing the FIB and striking a deal using the money he earned from the Heist. He changes his name to Michael de Santa and settles in Los Santos unbeknownst to Trevor.



The Reintegration of Possession

9 years later, we see a sequence where Michael settled in Los Santos using an assumed name. He is in his 30s, going through a midlife crisis. He is seen sharing these thoughts with his psychiatrist. After that, they show completely different characters. Franklin and Lamar are 2 young men who are stealing a car for their boss, who sells them in his showroom. The player is asked to choose a car from 2 options given to him. Lamar gets into the leftover car and drives away. The player, who is now controlling Franklin, has to follow Lamar to a downtown parking lot. After that, Lamar leaves and the player is given a 2-star wanted level. the player must then lose the wanted level, drive to the showroom, choose Lamar, and return to his house.



These were the presentations of the three protagonists of GTA Online. They later meet and come back as the game's story progresses.
