It's no surprise that the game has garnered such a wide and dedicated following due to its free-to-play approach and the addictive nature of the battle royale style.
Epic Games also pushed the envelope in terms of content, which players praised. They've collaborated with prominent music industry stars including Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, and Marvel, to name a few.
But in 2022, how many people will still be playing Fortnite? Is the battle royale genre ending? Here's what the numbers show.

In 2022, how many Fortnite players will there be?
Epic, like many other successful gaming companies, doesn't often discuss Fortnite player counts with the public. However, there are still some bits of information floating around.
It now has more than 350 million registered users, according to Epic Games, with numbers steadily increasing until its 2018-2019 peak.
With the Galactus event in December 2020, the game peaked at over 15 million concurrent players. Travis Scott's groundbreaking show in April 2020 drew over 12 million concurrent players.
It's a little harder to find active players on a daily basis. According to PlayerCounter, the game has between three and eight million concurrent players at any given time, with tens of millions checking in daily.
Is Fortnite doomed?
While the game had a rough patch in Chapter 2, the influx of new content in Chapter 3 seems to have spurred players on.
It will continue to have a sizable user base until Epic decides to shut it down;
Regardless of whether Fortnite's popularity waxes or wanes, its influence on the game's culture will endure – even if the Island (or Jonesy) doesn't. The game is unlikely to reach the peak of nearly 80 million players reached in August 2018, but that doesn't mean it's dead.
