Fortnite is giving away a pickaxe to make up for December login issues for its players. It's not the first time Fortnite has dropped, but the gift to its players isn't new either. Players are eager to get a brand new pickaxe for free in the game, whether for the game login issues.
The Fortnite servers went down last month and the community was unable to log in and enter the matchmaking process. The article describes that Fortnite is giving away a pickaxe to make up for its December login issues.

Fortnite is giving a pickaxe
Fortnite is a very popular battle royale game published by Epic Games. Players received messages like “You are not allowed to play Fifteen Days,” while trying to get to the game in December. As a way to make up for lost time, Epic decided to propose a reward for players.
At 13:13 pm ET, Epic Games said it was investigating "an issue" and promised to share more information once it has a solution to the issue. Several streamers reported the matter via Twitter, showing their visible revulsion at the persistent issue, and many also reported that account information is also not available.
As an apology for the downtime players experienced during Fortnite Winterfest, Epic is delivering the Crescent Shroom Pickaxe on January 7 at 19pm ET. To receive the pickaxe, the only requirement is that you have to log in at some point during Fortnite Winterfest.
Downtime usually occurs while there are updates in the game. The first major update since the release of Fortnite Chapter 3 goes live today on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo and mobile devices. The game starts disabling early afternoon matchmaking and server downtime for a short period of time.
Crescent Shroom is a rare harvesting tool in Fortnite: Battle Royale. It is a part of the Fungus King Set and will be gifted to everyone (as long as they logged in during Winterfest 2021 as compensation for downtime).
If you didn't participate in the holiday event, you can buy the Crescent Shroom Pickaxe from the item shop later. Epic hasn't announced how many V-bucks it will cost, but my guess would be somewhere between 800 and 1200 V-bucks.
