Fortnite on Switch now has a gyro control and 'flight stick' update

Even if we're not regular Fortnite players, there's no denying that the free-to-play phenomenon has set high expectations in terms of world-building, season pass value, IP crossovers, and control/accessibility options.

The current update, which should be available to everyone or soon, expands the control options available on Switch and other gyroscope-compatible platforms.

Fortnite has supported the gyroscope since day one on Switch, but Epic Games claims it will now be 'more robust'. The inclusion of 'Flick Stick' controls is even more intriguing; the video above features its developer, Julian “Jibb” Smart, discussing how it works and presenting in-game use cases.

Here's How To Access These Controls In Fortnite (Once Updated)

Gyro: In the “Touch and Motion” tab of the settings, toggle the gyro controls on or off. Turn “Gyro Aiming” on or off to do this. When the camera is on, you can control it by turning the controller.

This provides more accuracy than traditional stick pointing, although it doesn't have to completely replace it. Typically, players use the right stick for most camera control, with the gyro aiming for finer shifts that are difficult to achieve with a stick.

Flick Stick: Activate the flick stick in the “Touch and Motion” menu so that when you point the right stick in a specific direction, the camera will quickly move in that direction. Since you can no longer shoot up or down with the right stick, you'll need to enable gyro scope.

While a movement stick is normally suggested for experienced gyroscope players, some novice gyroscope players pick it up quickly in Fortnite.
